Mercedes-AMG GT Track Sport shows up before launch

Mercedes-AMG has posted the first images of a concept car known as the AMG GT Track Sport. It’s billed as “the new record setter”, so it’s a shame the photos reveal next to nothing.

Judging by its name alone, the AMG GT Track Sport is a racing-focused model. A closer look at the pics reveals a rather sophisticated aero kit, a large rear wing and large-diameter wheels shod in low-profile tires. The company hints that it may eventually be distilled into a street-legal supercar packing a V8 under the hood.

Right now, though, it is still running its final pre-production tests in Affalterbach. Based on the official commentary, it sounds like the prototype is gradually taking the shape of a fully featured race car ready for a motorsports career. Later on, the company may base a new GT-series supercar on the same chassis, but it’s still too early to talk about that.
