30-year-old Mercedes-Benz 600 SEL restomod conceals a huge V12 under the hood

Tuning shop Renntech is renowned for its Mercedes expertise, and this restored-plus-modernized Mercedes-Benz 600 SEL is its latest project. The company calls it ‘unique in multiple ways.’

Perhaps the main achievement here is the naturally aspirated M120 V12 under the hood, which the team managed to bore out from the original 6.0 to whopping 7.6 liters of displacement. As a result, the elderly saloon raised its power output to 624 PS (615 hp / 459 kW) and torque to 953 PS (703 lb-ft). The standard sprint time went down to around five seconds, and the car has no trouble reaching its speed limit of 250 km/h (155 mph) going in a straight line.

The stock four-speed automatic gearbox made room for a more up-to-date five-speed one, and an OS Giken limited-slip differential was added. The brakes now consist of carbon-ceramic discs and heavy-duty calipers – six-piston front and four-piston rear.

The body kit is very subtle and comprises a front splitter, a spoiler and side moldings. The suspension is adaptive and lower than stock, and the arches are occupied by bespoke 19-inch wheels. A glimpse inside reveals carbon accents, Alcantara on the ceiling and two separate seats in the back row.

Renntech says this particular 600 SEL is unique, but you can always ask them for a similar job.
