Exclusive, low-mileage Brabus SL63 loses $170k in value

An ultra-rare custom vehicle has cropped up on sale in the United States the other day: 1 of 25 Brabus 750 Bobo Buschmann Edition, based on the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL 63. You’d expect it to be worth something with a carbon-fiber body kit, overhauled interior and boosted powertrain, but the reality has proven otherwise.

Brabus issued the car in 2023 in memory of its founder, Bobo Buschmann, who passed away at 62 years old in 2018. The original plans involved making 25 such vehicles worth $415,000 each, although we have no way of knowing how many actually saw the light of day. The example seen here had only 2,735 kilometers (1,700 miles) of use on it, too, and looked pristine when it was listed.

Working with a standard Mercedes-AMG SL 63, Brabus retrofitted it with a purpose-designed body kit, an illuminated grille logo, and rather unique-looking three-spoke forged wheels. A peek behind the spokes reveals carbon-ceramic brakes, also an aftermarket addition.

The interior of this car received an overhaul in black Nappa leather with textile inserts, illuminated sills and carbon-fiber trims. Brabus listed this interior option at $59,000.

Last but not least, the 4.0-liter AMG V8 received new turbos and an ECU remap to deliver 750 PS (740 hp / 552 kW) with 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels.

In the end, the car failed to meet reserve with the bidding barely reaching $241,000. That’s about as much as one may expect to give for a new, stock Mercedes-AMG SL 63. Commemorative edition or not, tuner cars sure seem to have lost some of their appeal compared to just several years ago.
