MINI has presented the next generation of its three-door hatchback that’s officially called ‘Cooper’ now and runs exclusively on electric power.
The outlines and proportions have largely been preserved, but the new design looks considerably fresher than the old one. It comes with a 240mm (9.4”) round display in the middle of the front panel and a redesigned control pad. There are parking brake switches, e-motor start/stop switches and a volume knob for a new infotainment system powered by MINI 9 OS. The company’s latest voice assistant is included.
In its most basic version named Cooper E, the car makes do with a single 184-PS (181-hp / 135-kW) motor that makes 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque and lets it sprint to the highway speed in 7.3 seconds.
Next up the list is Cooper SE, which gets 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 330 Nm (246 lb-ft) of torque. It needs 6.7 seconds to hit 100 km/h, or 62 mph.
There are two batteries to choose between as well – one rated at 40.7 kWh and the other one at 54.2 kWh. Their respective ranges are 305 and 402 kilometers (190 and 250 miles). The peak charging current power is 95kW (DC).
MINI will produce its next Cooper lineup at the BMW–Great Wall joint enterprise in China.
