MINI launches a one-off convertible worthy of a collection

Unlike some upmarket automakers, MINI usually doesn’t bother with deep customization of their vehicles, but this unique convertible known as the Mini Super Special 001 proves that the British marque can get plenty of things right – if it sets its mind to it, that is.

The design department had to come up with more than 50 unique exterior and interior elements for the project. The body ended up with a foldable soft top adorned with an image of the British flag, an asymmetrical black/green paintjob and 18-inch JCW Rallye Spoke wheels.

Similar colors can be found in the cabin, where off-green trims decorate the dashboard, the center console, the seats, the Harman Kardon audio speakers and the door cards. Illuminated scuff plates and the steering wheel bear the lettering “Mini.01” – that’s the shortened name of this project.

Automakers hardly ever mess with engine characteristics, and MINI isn’t an exception. The unique convertible continues to output 231 PS (228 hp / 170 kW) from its 2,0-liter turbocharged four-pot linked to the wheels through a dual-clutch transmission. It probably still takes 6.4 seconds for the car to reach 100 km/h (62 mph).

You can obtain a regular MINI JCW Convertible (like the one in the video) starting from $45,000 in the States, but this one could have cost north of $100,000 for all we know.
