Mitsubishi Motors has shared its plans for the next five years, including the intention to release 16 new cars, 9 out of them electrified.
The list of new models mentions the already-revealed ASX (a rebadged Renault Captur) and the Delica Mini. There is also a body-on-frame pickup truck (likely the next-gen L200) and an off-roader dubbed “PPV” (likely a continuation of the Pajero Sport).
Other production cars further down the roadmap include one based on the XFC Concept (see video), a seven-seat SUV, a part-electric Xpander, a battery-electric pickup and a five-seat SUV, as well as two BEVs co-developed with the assistance from Nissan and Renault. Finally, what we know as the latest Renault Clio is scheduled to become a Mitsubishi Colt after a few tweaks.
By the beginning of the next decade, the Japanese automaker reckons to electrify 50 percent of its total sales worldwide. To that end, the company will be investing 210,000,000,000 JPY into traction battery research and development. Five years after that, Mitsubishi will have got rid of its ICE car inventory for good.
