Elderly BMW 325i (E30) Cabrio undergoes EV conversion

We have been seeing all manner of classical cars being converted into all-electric vehicles lately. These included the opulent Porsche 911 by Japanese tuner RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF, an Audi S5, and plenty of vehicles from Zelectric Motors. But this is the first time we are seeing a battery-powered BMW 325i (E30) Cabrio.

What the snow-white 1992 convertible has under the hood is not some no-name engine, either, but rather the formidable Tesla Modell S P85D powertrain. Naturally, this means that the stock inline-six had to be ditched, to the regret of exactly no one involved.

The new engine draws its power from a Chevrolet Volt battery rated at 32 kilowatt-hours. While sufficient for urban use, the owner of the car will likely have to replace it with a larger one for longer trips.
