VW to launch traction battery production in the USA

Volkswagen will be expanding its factory in Chattanooga to produce traction batteries and electric cars for the United States market, including the ID.4 shown on the video here.

The company will be opening a high-voltage test facility at the factory to research and develop power storage solutions for vehicles. VW emphasizes that it is not going to license third-party products or technologies, preferring to develop its own know-how just like Tesla did before it.

The official statement of VW North America also mentions a large-scale expansion of the existing technological center in Chattanooga, where unique EVs will be designed and built exclusively for the U.S. market.
