Nissan has launched a new initiative in Japan called Cube Retro Renovation, which will be dedicated to restoring long-discontinued, but still-popular Cube hatchbacks and selling them at premium prices through official dealerships.
According to the company, it’s not as much an attempt to expand its assortment of cars on the domestic market as it is just a nature-saving effort. Should enough customers show interest in these restored cars, Japan will benefit from it.
Judging by the press release, Nissan employees will acquire used Cubes, completely restore and repair them and replace all worn parts such as radiator grilles, lights or interior trim. Every car will also get an up-to-date infotainment system, stylish new hubcaps and cool body graphics.
Only 20 such hatchbacks will be produced in the pilot batch coming soon. Based on the reception and the number of pre-orders, Nissan will determine how many examples it should produce.
Buying out a used Nissan Cube costs the company ¥700,000 on average, while restoring it costs another ¥850,000.
