Nissan GT-R Nismo that starred in Gran Turismo movie goes on sale

Silverstone will be holding a promotional event of sorts this summer dedicated to the screening of the movie Gran Turismo on August 11, 2023. Two weeks after the premiere, the 2014 Nissan GT-R GT3 featured in it will cross the auction block. The expected selling price lies between £225,000 and £275,000 (U.S. $290,000–350,000).

The car was not originally designed for the filming set. The team of Nissan Europe, including Jann Mardenborough, used to drive it in the FIA GT championship. The movie is dedicated to Mardenborough, who got into his racecar seat after winning a championship in the Gran Turismo video game. He was noticed and accepted into Nissan GT Academy, from where he graduated and proceeded to participate in the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring eight years ago. He was driving this exact GT-R Nismo and came ninth in the overall standing.

Mardenborough took part in the shoot as well – but only as a stunt driver. Driving his trusty GT-R Nismo, he helped recreate certain episodes on the racetrack.

The supercar on sale currently belongs to GT Academy Manager Darren Cox, who is depicted by Orlando Blum in the movie. The seller believes that the auction presents a grand opportunity to acquire a GT3 that’s simultaneously a famous racecar and a movie car. Racing vehicles rarely make it to the aftermarket, and high-budget movie makers seldom part with their stage props, hoping to reuse them for any sequels or spin-offs that might follow.
