The North American division of Nissan is seriously considering a reintroduction of the Xterra SUV to the U.S. market – and not just in any version, either. The original body-on-frame design may make a comeback.
Apparently, the company is frustrated with the sheer success of the Toyota 4Runner. Theoretically, it could bring the international X-Terra version (seen in the gallery and the video here) to the United States. In reality, however, the international spec is arguably outdated and a poor choice for the demanding American market.
This is why reports are coming in that the local office of Nissan has been actively looking for ways to return the Xterra nameplate to the U.S. market. The VP of Nissan North America confirmed these rumors but declined further comment.
