Porsche tuner puts a bigger warranty on its cars than OEM ever did

Gunther Werks, a California-based company famous for its meticulously crafted Porsche 911 restomods, has finished its entire planned Speedster production run. To celebrate, the company has announced extending the warranty for the cars it made to 5 years or 100,000 miles (~160,000 kilometers), whichever comes first.

This is impressive even compared to Porsche’s own warranty plan for the United States: you can’t get more than 4 years or 50,000 miles (~80,000 km). According to Gunther Werks CEO Peter Nam, his company is sufficiently confident in its engineering experts to extend the warranty both for owners only just receiving their cars and those who have been driving theirs for a while. He admitted that many buyers would hesitate to put quite as much mileage on their expensive restomods, but implied that he hoped they would at least try.

The Gunther Werks Speedster debuted in 2021, destined for a 25-unit production run. The base car is a 911 (993) model with completely redone bodywork and interior, added adaptive suspension and a superior flat-six engine tuned to extract over 440 PS (434 hp / 324 kW) from four liters of displacement. Every example costs at least $850,000.
