Legendary Porsche 911 GT1 racer from the ‘90s hits the road again

One of Porsche’s most successful race cars ever, the 911 GT1, has enjoyed a tiny production run of 25 or so street-legal units, while the rest were all pure race cars. Lanzante Limited has added another Strassenversion to the list by manually rebuilding a track-only example.

Those familiar with the name Lanzante will know that the company often manages to produce road-worthy versions of extreme track weapons you wouldn’t expect to see in the traffic otherwise. This particular 911 GT1 left the factory in 1997 and is believed to be the world’s only Evo version with a unique body (chassis number 117). The tuner claims it won 13 out of 31 races it took part with in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The original conversion took place a decade ago, but its owner found it a bit too wild to drive on the streets, so it recently made it back to the tuner for an overhaul. Lanzante installed new, more comfortable seats with a softer trim, padded the roll cage with soft materials and replaced the transmission selector with one that the owner found easier to operate. Wrapping up the makeover, the company also resprayed the whole car from its original silver into Porsche Yachting Blue.
