Porsche Taycan gets updated for the next model year

Porsche has significantly upgraded its Taycan EV lineup for the first time since launch in 2019. The range-topping Turbo S spec now churns out 952 PS (939 hp / 700 kW).

The cheapest Taycan available now gains 82 PS (81 hp / 60 kW) over the old version and sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.8 seconds. The Turbo S gains a cool 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW) and reaches the same acceleration in 2.4 seconds. An optional package called Sport Chrono lets you boost the output by a further 95 PS (94 hp / 70 kW) for 10 seconds.

The battery size has been increased from 93 to 105 kWh. Perhaps more importantly, charging the pack from 10 to 80 percent full now takes only 18 minutes, as opposed to 37. The longest-range version covers up to 678 km (421 miles) on a full battery according to the WLTP standard – 35 percent more than the old version. Last but not least, regenerative braking has become roughly 30% more efficient.

Even in its starting spec, the new Taycan takes advantage of active air-ride suspension. The dual-motor version is even better off thanks to an optional system called Porsche Active Ride, which keeps the cabin perfectly level during sharp acceleration, braking and cornering.

Exterior novelty boils down to slightly redesigned lights, bumpers, wheels and new paint options. The tailgate now bears illuminated PORSCHE lettering, and the whole car weighs roughly 15 kilos (33 pounds) less than its predecessor, despite all the advanced tech.

Inside, improved user interfaces and graphics are the biggest highlights. Porsche says it was able to integrate Apple CarPlay into the infotainment system much better than before. There are two new seat trim options on the list – textile and wool. Both come as standard for the Turbo and Turbo S – you only pay extra if you want leather on the seats. For the rest of the trim range, textile and wool are considered premium options.
