Report: New Renault Duster to get a pickup version

Renault is apparently working on a light pickup truck to replace the current Duster Oroch model mainly sold in South America. According to Autocar India, it will be based on the new Duster and will be offered in a number of countries worldwide, although the launch date remains unknown.

In its current generation, the Duster Oroch looks nearly identical to its SUV counterpart – excusing the bed, of course. We are told that the light pickup being designed as its replacement is going to have a much more distinct style to it, with the key features inspired by the Niagara Concept (shown in the gallery and the video here).

The vehicle name remains unknown, but the sources claim it will ship with two wheelbase lengths to choose from. Once out and about, it will primarily compete against the Chevrolet Montana and the Fiat Toro.

According to the sources, AWD will be available only in the most expensive spec. The truck will allegedly be offered with a range of petrol and hybrid powertrains, and only the flagship spec will feature a full-fledged electric motor at the rear axle. On the upside, all trims will support switching between different off-road driving modes.

Last but not least, we are told that Renault wants to expand its presence on the international market by offering its new pickup truck with the steering wheel on the right-hand side. The current Duster Oroch lacks a RHD version. Later on, Nissan may borrow the platform to produce its own variant of the truck if it proves successful.
