Speaking in an interview four years ago, Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said the company would skip hybrids and proceed straight to full-electric cars. Today, more details have been revealed concerning the first one.
Apparently, the luxury vehicle will be called ‘Silent Shadow’, which is an obvious nod to the Silver Shadow and a hint at the battery-based powertrain at the same time. The model is already under development and will be launched within this decade, although the company denied further comment as to when that might be.
It was assumed that the British automaker would begin electrification with its Phantom flagship, but, according to the new official statement, there will be a dedicated all-electric model lineup instead. The tech might end up partially borrowed from the BMW i7.
As for the appearances, the Silent Shadow could resemble the five-year-old 103EX Concept featured in our gallery and the video here, envisioned back at the time as a self-driving car from a distant future.
