Rolls-Royce sends off its most popular convertible

The Rolls-Royce Dawn, said to be the company’s best-selling convertible ever, has now officially left production for good. Towards the end of the year, the automaker plans to unveil an all-electric vehicle called Spectre, which could be considered a replacement for sorts.

The company brought back the ‘Dawn’ nameplate in 2015, nearly six decades after its first use. Three years before, it introduced a coupe version of it named Wraith, but insisted that the Dawn had 80% original bodywork and therefore deserved being called a standalone model.

The British luxury carmaker also praised the Dawn as being the world’s quietest and most comfortable convertible to ride in thanks to the superior noise-proofing qualities of its cloth top. The level of comfort was said to be on par with that of the Wraith coupe. In related news, we learned in March this year that the Wraith was also heading to its permanent retirement soon.

The original Dawn model had shipped with a 6.6-liter V12 engine rated at 563 PS (555 hp / 414 kW). Six years ago, a Black Badge version debuted with a 30-PS (30-hp / 22-kW) engine boost.

In 2022, Rolls-Royce set a new sales record with 6,021 vehicles sold in total, but the Wraith and the Dawn only accounted for 10% of this number combined. The company never specified how many Dawn units it had managed to sell.
