German tuner HOF brought a particularly extreme Mercedes-AMG G 63 to the recent auto show in Abu Dhabi, UAE. It was stylized after the racecars driven by Lewis Hamilton, seven-time champion of Formula 1 whose contract with the Mercedes team ran out at the end of the season.
Dubbed “Sir Class” by its creators, the off-roader boasts a thoroughly rebuilt engine and drivetrain. New turbos, air intake, fuel pumps and exhaust system enable it to send a record-high 1,063 PS (1,048 hp / 782 kW) to the wheels and produce up to 1,300 Nm (959 lb-ft) of torque. Tuned like this, the bulky G-Wagen sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.5 seconds and can hit 300 km/h (186 mph) despite its high-drag profile.
This is not to say that the body stays stock. Fender flares, sporty side sills and a more rounded front end should help with the acceleration. The same goes for the roof, which is now made of carbon fiber. Coilovers in the suspension drop the ride height and improve handling; just don’t burn yourself on those side-mounted exhaust pipes!
We have seen many aftermarket interiors for the latest G-Class, but this one is about as outlandish as they get. Carbon trims cover every surface wherever you look, and the steering wheel looks like a simplified replica of the AMG One wheel – another nod to Hamilton’s hypercar.
HOF has plans for 11 such vehicles, each priced from $680,000 or so.
