NASA guru pledges to teach Hyundai cars to fly

We have only recently reported that Geely was going to build a flying car factory in China next year, and now seems like Hyundai wants to join in on the party.

The South Korean carmaker has established a new subdivision, called the Urban Air Mobility and headed by ex-NASA engineering expert Dr. Jaiwon Shin, who dedicated around 30 years of his life to aeronautics.

The company hopes that aerial transports will put up strong competition for the conventional cars within the coming twenty years. It also believes that the air mobility market will grow to U.S. $1.5 trillion over the same period.

In fact, Hyundai is the first car manufacturer to start developing its own ‘flying car’ subdivision from the ground up, rather than buying ready solutions from other businesses (like Geely did) or investing into third parties (like Toyota does). Another example of a different approach would be Audi, which plans to enter the market in partnership with Airbus.
