Sony shows off an improved Afeela EV

Sony has almost finished developing its all-electric sedan, Afeela. The car, which has been co-designed with Honda over the past four years, made another show debut at the CES in Las Vegas.

The recognizable elongated body shape with gently sloping c-pillars has been largely retained. The front bumper and the a-pillars have grown bigger, the lighting all around has been revised and the video cameras swapped out for normal side mirrors.

As a result of these minor tweaks, the Afeela has grown to 4,915 x 1,900 x 1,460 mm large (192 x 74.3 x 57.1 inches). The wheelbase length has stayed at exactly three meters (117.2 inches).

The interior has barely been touched since the last time. The only changed elements are the steering yoke, the rearview mirror and the transmission tunnel with wireless charging pad. The displays and the armrest with a function dial on it have stayed the same as before.

In its pre-production version, the EV has two electric motors jointly rated at 489 PS (482 hp / 360 kW) and a 91-kWh battery pack. Sony has never mentioned any range figures, but said that charging would be possible from sources rated up to 150 kW.

Pre-orders will open in early 2025. The car will provide its owners with online access to a vast amount of Sony’s entertainment content, as well as a broad array of safety assists based on 45 sensors and cameras.
