Musk keeps promising a 1.1s 0-60 mph sprint for his next-gen Roadster

Tesla CEO Elon Musk believes that miniature jet engines included in the SpaceX package will enable the new Tesla Roadster to hit 97 km/h (60 miles per hour) in barely more than a second.

The SpaceX luxury option upgrades the car with ten additional engines using heavily condensed cold air for propulsion. A similar technology is used in SpaceX rockets. The company claims the resulting acceleration will push the driver and passengers to “the limit of human endurance.” As such, people with health issues may want to avoid exposing themselves to this potentially hazardous acceleration, Musk adds.

While pre-orders for the second-gen Roadster are already running, the production schedule gets pushed back time and again. When the car does come out, it will pack triple electric motors in its most basic specification, enabling a launch time of two seconds flat. It should also be able to cover around 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) on a charge. Prices for the first batch are expected to begin at U.S. $250,000.
