The Toyota Crown family has greeted its fourth member in the USA. Previously known as the Crown Estate, the crossover SUV will enter the North American market under a new name – Crown Signia, replacing the outdated Venza.
The company hasn’t revealed any dimensions yet except for the fact that you can transport 2-meter (6.5-foot) long items in the trunk. On the outside, the Signia has lighting similar to those of the other Crown models, but otherwise sports its own, distinct design.
Specifically, it has original-looking bumpers and front grille and a wagon-like silhouette with unusual c-pillars. On the whole, it resembles a high-riding estate more than a traditional SUV. The wheels can be up to 21 inches large, and there are five exterior colors available.
The interior has been largely borrowed from the other Crowns, but the Signia gains exclusive access to some trim options. Even in its most basic spec, it has power-adjustable seats, a multimedia system with two 12.3-inch displays and the Safety Sense 3.0 assist package. Higher trims bring along a 11-channel JBL audio system, surround-view cameras and a digital key fob, among other niceties.
A 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine receives assistance from electric motors for a total of 243 PS (240 hp / 179 kW). The rear wheels are driven by a dedicated motor, and the electronic systems on board ensure that the torque get distributed in optimal ways, in ratios from 100/0 to 20/80 front/rear.
Drivers will be able to choose from multiple powertrain modes including all-electric, but the range capacity remains to be revealed. The battery is not chargeable from external sources, so it likely isn’t much.
