Check out a rare (but not unique) Toyota FJ Cruiser Convertible

An ongoing auction offers for sale a Toyota FJ Cruiser with an automatic soft top made by California-based Newport Convertible Engineering. Around 35 such cars exist in total, according to reports.

An electric drive is used to lower and raise the soft top. This example had its rear window and roof fabric replaced this spring. It also rocks 17-inch TRD wheels, air suspension in the back, remote engine launch capability, a keyless entry system, and a nine-speaker audio set.

Power comes from a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated V6 that links to a five-speed A/T and a transfer case. The rear differential is lockable, and the nominal output amounts to 242 PS (239 hp / 178 kW).

The car rolled off the assembly line in 2008 and was acquired by its latest owner for U.S. $16,000 eight years ago with around 100,000 km (60,000 miles) on the odo. The current mileage exceeds 300,000 km (186,000 miles), but the seller claims the car is in good overall condition, only needing some treatment against lower body rust and other such cosmetic issues.
