9th-gen Toyota Hilux shows up ahead of Nov. 10 reveal

The next generation of the Toyota Hilux will debut in Thailand on Monday, November 10. In the meantime, the company posted a short teaser vid where you can see its lighting, alloys, and body outlines.

The headlights and the taillights seem to stay recognizable, but the hood looks distinctly more muscular and there is a large “TOYOTA” lettering on the grille. The alloy wheels feature seven spokes and a black finish.

While not official just yet, the general expectation is that the new Hilux rides on a newer version of its own IMV body-on-frame chassis. The latest Tacoma and Land Cruiser benefit from a more modern architecture known as the TNGA-F. Despite its more conservative design, the ninth-gen Hilux should still be able to take advantage of Toyota’s latest driving assist features.

For the powertrain, the only option announced so far incorporates a 204-PS (201-hp / 150-kW) turbo diesel with 2.8 liters of displacement and a starter-generator. The resulting mild hybrid setup will be available in Thailand with an automatic transmission, but we suppose manual will be offered in most regions, too. Buyers will also probably be able to choose between RWD and AWD, as usual.

All production will be handled by the same factory in Thailand where the current, eighth generation of the pickup truck has been made since its debut a whole decade ago.

Although no interior shots have been revealed, we expect a cabin similar to that of the new Land Cruiser Prado, just with cheaper trim materials and fewer options.
