Volkswagen ushers in the next-gen T7 California

Volkswagen has officially introduced the new generation of its campervan called California. The T7-based vehicle is still technically called a concept, but it should reach production next year.

In this version, the T7 minivan utilizes a petrol-electric powertrain that Volkswagen claims is more convenient to use in this kind of transports than traditional engines. The traction battery on board doubles as a power source for the living area and any appliances installed.

No powertrain details have been revealed so far, but the standard T7 Hybrid comes rated at 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW). There is little reason to doubt that this is the case here as well.

The concept RV has two sliding doors at the sides for easy access. The one on the left leads to the kitchen, but you don’t need to go inside all the time – the kitchen is accessible form outside as well. The front seats swivel around to face the cabin, where a table is installed. The rear bench seat can be unfolded to make a large bed. One more sleeping place is found under the pop-up roof.
