ABT Sportsline improves the output of the VW 1.4 TSI e hybrid system

Daniel Abt had already tuned a part-electric powertrain once, persuading the Audi Q5 55 TFSI e to churn out an impressive 425 PS (419 hp / 313 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. Now, he has announced a similar tuning for a whole number of hybrids, some examples being Audi A3, Volkswagen Golf, and Cupra Formentor.

The common denominator here is the powertrain, which is called “1.4 TSI e” and uses a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine in conjunction with an electric motor. The latter was understandably left as is, while the ICE received a push from its stock 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) to 180 PS (177 hp / 132 kW). The torque also went up from 250 Nm (183 lb-ft) to 290 Nm (213 lb-ft).

We are told that the part-electric Skoda Superb iV, VW Passat and Arteon, Seat Leon, and Skoda Octavia RS will also benefit from the upgrade. The end amount of power will depend on the electric motor used in each specific model: for instance, the Cupra Formentor Hybrid will hit the asphalt with 275 PS (271 hp / 202 kW) and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque after the tuning.
