British singer’s retro camper goes on sale for roughly £50k

Iconic Auctioneers will try to sell an exotic Volkswagen T1 Double-Door Sundial Camper in the UK in late July. Originally meant for the North American market, it was instead bought by Take That singer and musician Howard Donald and stayed in Great Britain. The going price is estimated at 45–55 thousand GBP.

The listing doesn’t mention the mileage but emphasizes that the van underwent a complete restoration prior to the sale, so it should feel lively enough for a 60-year-old vintage vehicle. Both the body and the powertrain were reportedly dismantled and rebuilt from the ground up by Volkswagen professionals. The stock 1.5-liter engine and its four-speed manual transmission were preserved, meaning the RV still pumps out around 43 PS (42 hp / 32 kW) to the wheels.

Speaking of the RV features, it’s pretty basic and offers little besides a folding bed, a kitchenette, and some wooden furniture. Entering and getting out is made easy thanks to the titular double swing doors. It doesn’t look like there are many pieces of modern equipment on board; Howard Donald specifically wanted a retro van, not a fancy restomod. If that’s worth the asking price for you, head to Iconic Auctioneers and register for bidding while there’s still time.
