Volvo announces the cheapest EX30 so far

Volvo’s most affordable electric car – the compact-sized EX30 SUV – will soon be available with an entry-level motor and smaller battery pack. It will also benefit from a revised infotainment UI and power sharing capabilities.

The newcomer has only 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) at the rear axle and makes do with 51 kilowatt-hours of power storage, rated 339 kilometers (210 miles) of range. An optional 69-kWh pack can extend the range to 476 km (295 mi).

For comparison, the current base spec of the EX30 is good for 268 PS (264 hp / 197 kW) and comes with a 54-kWh traction battery.

On the infotainment front, Volvo says it has reworked the user interface to be more intuitive and offer quicker access to all popular features. The new EX30 will also be the first Volvo EV to offer Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) features, powering other cars and appliances. In fact, the company says the current models already support it on a hardware level – they’ll just need a software update to enable it.

Last but least, buyers of the new cheap EX30 will be choosing from a wider range of exterior finishes and interior trims. A similar version is in the works for the rugged EX30 Cross Country, too.

Launch date and all pricing info remain to be announced.
