Volvo’s first all-electric car – the XC40 Recharge – has arrived in the United States, and it comes at a premium over the Tesla Model Y.
The crossover SUV has an all-wheel drive system in all trims and dual electric motors joining their efforts for 408 PS (402 hp / 300 kW). It needs 4.9 seconds to hit 60 miles per hour and covers more than 400 kilometers (250 miles), according to WLTP test protocols. Charging from empty to 80% full takes 40 minutes, and you can attach a trailer to it weighing up to 3,300 lbs (1.5 metric tons).
Prices in North America start from $53,990, subsidies not included. The Tesla Model Y can be had from $49,990.
Volvo launched the production of the XC40 Recharge in Ghent, Belgium earlier this month.
