Voyah Taishan touches down in China

Premium Chinese automaker Voyah has revealed its next flagship SUV called the Taishan. While the model name may still change, the car is almost ready for production and should become available to preorder before the end of the month.

Everything suggests that the Voyah Taishan is sized similarly to the Zeekr 9X. Both are categorized under luxury hybrid SUVs, so they will probably land in the same market niche. The Taishan seems to have smoother outlines than the Zeekr 9X, making it look like a number of European flagship SUVs at once. The biggest highlights include a signature “waterfall grille” at the front, stacked headlights, a large rear spoiler and an optional two-tone paint scheme. Automatic running boards, backlit door handles and novelty wheels are also included as standard.

The whole crossover measures 5,230 x 2,025 x 1,817 mm (204.3 x 79.1 x 71 inches) large with 3,120 mm (124.6 inches) separating the axles. It is strictly a six-seater by design with a full Huawei ADAS package on board driving the car in a semi-autonomous fashion thanks to four LiDARs. Air-ride suspension components and rear-wheel steering should make it a smooth ride regardless of who’s behind the wheel.

Voyah hasn’t officially revealed any engine specifications yet, but leaked certification data suggests that the Taishan uses a 1.5-liter turbo engine with 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW). How many electric motors it has and how advanced they are remains unknown. The spec sheet mentions a 65-kWh battery pack rated for 370 km (230 miles) of electric range and 1,400 km (870 miles) of hybrid driving. It also points out 800V power internals that enable the SUV to top up the charge from 20 to 80% in 12 minutes.

The media in China speculate that Voyah’s latest flagship will start somewhere in the 450,000–470,000 Yuan area when it goes on sale in late September. This converts into $63,250–66,000.
