Tank 400 goes on sale in China

Great Wall automotive sub-brand Tank continues expanding its domestic vehicle lineup with the launch of the Tank 400, an SUV driven by a hybrid system called Hi4-T. At this time, only one version is available with 408 metric horsepower and a starting price of 285,000 Yuan.

The new model will slot in between Tank 300 and Tank 500 in the manufacturer’s lineup. It is 4,985 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,905 mm tall with 2,850 mm between the axles. The ground clearance is also decent at 224 mm (8.75 inches). The approach and departure angles amount to 33 and 30 degrees, respectively.

The powertrain consists of a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 252 PS (249 hp / 185 kW) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of its own, a nine-speed automatic transmission and an electric motor. The combined output of 408 PS (402 hp / 300 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) allows it to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.9 seconds.

The battery is rated at 20 kWh and up to 105 km (65 miles) of range in all-electric mode. The part-time AWD system on board supports uncoupling one of the axles and activating reduction gear.

Compared to the other Tank SUVs, the model number 400 sports a more dynamic exterior and the biggest infotainment display so far – 16.2 inches large. A 12.3-inch dashboard and a heads-up display are also on the list.
