He Xiaopeng, CEO of Chinese EV maker XPeng, has issued a letter to his employees saying that the company’s plans for the next three years involve designing and launching around 30 new or updated cars.
According to CnEVPost referencing the contents of the letter, the company will kick things off by introducing EVs based on two brand-new platforms later this year. One of them is allegedly designed for 300k+ CNY ($42k+) vehicles, while the other one targets the 150k CNY ($21k) price point. On the whole, the company expects to hold its prices within the range of 100,000–400,000 Chinese Yuan.
In the new year – which has only just begun according to China’s calendar – Xpeng hopes to double its production capacities. To that end, the company will be hiring another 4,000 employees and increasing its R&D budget by a further 40%. He Xiaopeng believes that these measures are essential on the EV market of China, which only promises to get more crowded and competitive soon.
The EV maker will also be investing 3.5 billion CNY ($492 million) in self-driving AI technologies this year. It will also be revising its marketing strategy regarding vehicles, web-based solutions and smartphones. Three individual design centers will begin working on a new design language for the company’s upcoming EVs.
Last but not least, XPeng hopes to expand its presence in a variety of regions including Europe, ASEAN, Middle East, Latin America and Oceania by localizing its product offerings for these markets.
