Opulent Zeekr 8X goes on sale in China

Geely-owned car brand Zeekr is already taking orders for its 8X serial hybrid, priced from 375,000 Yuan ($54,560) for the base spec to 520,000 Yuan ($75,660) for the top spec making 1,400 horsepower.

The car is 5.1 meters (199.2 inches) long with 3,069 mm (119.9 inches) between the axles. It flaunts a fairly sporty exterior with lots of chrome parts and traditional door handles instead of fancy power-assisted ones. Despite the abundance of promo images depicting the 8X in the middle of some kind of wilderness, Zeekr emphasizes that it’s an urban SUV not designed for any serious off-roading.

The default interior formula is 2+3 (two rows with a bench seat in the back), but you can order a 2+2+2 (three rows of two seats each). The latter layout lets you pay extra for power-assisted, heated, ventilated and massage-enabled second-row seats. Folding down the back row gives you 1,133 liters (40 cubic feet) of luggage space, and folding down two rows frees up whopping 2,200 liters (77.7 cubic feet).

A 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo mill under the hood produces 279 PS (275 hp / 205 kW) that it doesn’t send to the wheels – all power goes into the energy for the e-motors. The flagship version of the new Zeekr 8X commands three of these, making 1,400 PS (1,381 hp / 1,030 kW). Despite its sheer bulk, the electric SUV reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than three seconds, the manufacturer claims.

The specs of the dual-motor variant remain to be listed, but we hear it makes around 900 PS (885 hp / 660 kW).
