This 1972 Chevy K5 Blazer outshines all modern rivals

When Chevrolet resurrected the Blazer name not that long ago, the new SUV failed to fill in the shoes of its predecessor. To combat the sour taste it left in many fans’ mouths, tuners took a 48-year old Blazer pickup and restored it to sell for around $175k.

Specifically, the vehicle will go on sale at Mecum’s next month estimated between U.S. $150,000 and $175,000. Looking at it, one could believe that it could fetch even more than that. Note especially the amazing two-tone paint scheme, high-polished front grille, fashionable bumpers and nostalgia-inducing round headlights.

The cabin stays true to the original with its seats wrapped in plaid fabric and a slanted steering wheel. Dakota Instrumentation supplies the gauges, the HVAC makes its best “vintage” impression, and a RetroSound audio system rounds things off quite impressively.

The old engine flies out to make room for a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 good for 487 PS (480 hp / 358 kW). It links to a four-speed A/T and a transfer case. The crankshafts are new, the differentials are tuned, the shock absorbers wear KYB badges, and the brake system is also up-to-date.
