Chevrolet has barely introduced its part-electric Corvette yet, but the YouTube channel named Car and Driver followed up on the official premiere with some extra details.
Apparently, the introduction of the hybrid drivetrain necessitated making changes to the layout of the whole car. Among other things, the 1.9-kWh traction battery was mounted inside the center tunnel – roughly where the center console is at the back seat row. Chevy engineers also had to rework the suspension from scratch after swapping the solid axle for two half-axles driven by a new electric motor.
The trunk area has also changed with small niches added at the bottom to maximize the space. It doesn’t look like the difference will be noticeable, though. Inside, the displays boast revised graphics and the dashboard gets a special mode which only shows the current speed and battery charge level.
The Corvette E-Ray is set to reach the dealerships in late 2023.
