Dodge Charger Daytona EV spawns a 5-door version

Dodge dealerships in the United States are already taking preorders for what the company calls a “four-door Charger Daytona”, although it’s more of a liftback than sedan.

The electric car stays exactly the same size despite the two added doors and retains most of the bodywork of its coupe version. A dual-motor Scat Pack powertrain delivers 639 PS (630 hp / 470 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque to all four wheels, while a feature called PowerShot boosts the output by 41 PS (40 hp / 30 kW) for 10 seconds.

Outfitted like this, the new Daytona EV sprints from zero to 60 miles per hour (96.6 km/h) in 3.3 seconds. It completes a standard quarter-mile run in 11.5 seconds with an exit speed of 217 km/h (135 mph). A large 100.5-kWh battery pack doesn’t help much with the range: the power-hungry motors drain it dry after 388 km (241 miles) at most. Depending on the power source, charging can take anywhere between 24 minutes and 5.4 hours.

In its most basic form, the Daytona sedan offers a two-zone HVAC, a multimedia system running on two displays sized 12.3 and 16 inches across, a variety of heating options and an ADAS package. Options include panoramic sunroof, wireless charging pads, surround-view cameras, Alpine audio and power-assisted tailgate. Those brave enough to take the heavyweight EV to a track day may also go for a package called Track, featuring 20-inch wheels, adaptive shock absorbers, Brembo brakes and sport seats.

All prices are pending. The first shipments will be made in the second half of the year.
