Ford flaunts its electric Pikes Peak machine

The Blue Oval will participate in this year’s Race to the Clouds starting on June 23 with the unique F-150 Lightning SuperTruck EV Demonstrator. We saw a video teaser of it back in May, but this is the first time Ford Performance shows us proper photos and even some specs.

Just as we expected, the Supertruck wears a highly elaborate body kit including a massive front splitter, a rear wing, a diffuser, air vents right behind the front wheels and other drag-reducing, downforce-improving elements. Ford claims that the kit can generate a downforce of 6,000 lbs (over 2.7 metric tons) when moving at 240 km/h (150 mph).

On the outside, the truck may look a bit like the all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup, but it was purpose-built from scratch with a carbon-fiber body and all-new chassis. STARD, the company responsible for the project, is a long-standing partner of Ford Performance and has already made a name for itself with the SuperVan 4.2 prototype that won the top prize in its category in the last year’s race.

The SuperVan commanded 1,400 horsepower (1,044 kilowatts), and we expect the SuperTruck to have about as much. It will be driven by the same driver as last year, the award-winning Romain Dumas.
