Honda Prelude gets serious about domestic racing with GT500

The У Honda Prelude GT500 is a prototype race car scheduled for participation in the next year’s Super GT championship in Japan.

All details are pending, but here are some initial photos. The new racer is replacing the Civic Type R GT500 and belongs in the same class as the Nissan Z Nismo GT500 and Toyota Supra GT500. Toyota won the domestic championship in 2024 and is poised to take the pedestal this year as well; looks like Honda is ready to challenge its leadership now.

Based on the images, the newcomer wears an extended aero kit with giant fender flares, carbon-fiber applications and a swan-neck rear wing. It rides on Rays wheels. No indication what kind of powertrain is used, unfortunately.

The latest Prelude arrived early this fall packing a 2.0-liter petrol engine and an e-motor for a combined 203 PS (200 hp / 149 kW) and 447 Nm (330 lb-ft) of torque in the base spec. More powerful variants are underway, the company says, but even the bare-bones Prelude costs more in Japan than a V6-powered Nissan Z with 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW). As such, it remains to be seen how they line up.
