Electric Mercedes-Benz C-Class confirmed with GLC grille

Mercedes-Benz has posted the first teaser photo of its upcoming all-electric C-Class sedan. You don’t have to look closely to realize that a massively oversized, backlit fake radiator grille is going to be its biggest design trait. The same grille can be found on the recent GLC with EQ Technology, where it also serves zero purpose (see video).

In fact, if you look closer, you may find that the C-Class faux grille is even bigger and has four backlit shaving-razor blades instead of three. It is framed by tri-point headlights and accompanied by a rather soapbox-like silhouette and a rather flat-looking rear wheel arch.

Mercedes claims that the future rival of the BMW i3 will offer up to 800 km (497 miles) of range per charge. If the company actually manages to deliver on this promise, it will actually become its longest-range EV to date. We suppose it could use the same 94-kWh battery pack as the GLC, which commands nearly 500 horsepower but runs out of charge after 713 km (443 miles) at most. A low-drag profile and further optimizations may enable the C-Class to travel farther than that.
