The exclusive Mercedes-Maybach V12 Edition doesn’t deviate from the standard model S 680 in terms of tech, but boasts a particularly deluxe exterior and a cabin trimmed with 24-carat gold. Only 50 units will be made and offered in select countries starting this fall.
Every car comes painted in a combination of olive green and black with a dividing strip between the two colors. According to Mercedes, applying the multilayer coating takes up to 10 business days – twice as long as most two-tone vehicles usually require. The wheels are exclusive as well, and the interior combines the finest leather with carefully picked natural wood accents.
Once the fit-and-finish work is complete, the car gets adorned with genuine gold badges the company calls “medals”. They are supposed to remind owners about vintage Maybachs and their massive 12-cylinder engines.
With 612 PS (604 hp / 450 kW) and 660 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal, the S 680 sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds. Active suspension, rear-wheel steering, active noise cancellation and an MBUX infotainment system composed of five displays are included in the trim.
