Lunaz turns a Range Rover into an electric droptop

British car restorer and electrifier Lunaz has presented its latest project: a 1983 Range Rover convertible that took 5,000 hours to build.

The two-door off-roader shed its roof and pillars in the process, meaning that reinforcements had to be added to the rest of the body and the chassis. The company was specifically targeting the look of Roger Moore’s car in the James Bond movie “Octopussy”. Note that the spy movie aired in 1983 and also starred a bespoke Range Rover convertible.

The exterior was given a spray of Maya Blue paint, and the soft top was fashioned out of a dark blue piece of mohair for maximum style points. Unfortunately, we were unable to find any photos or videos of the car with the top raised.

Leather and natural walnut wood dominate the interior trim. The driver gets access to all imaginable modern creature comforts – climate control, reversing camera, a multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, USB charging ports, and more.

Power is supplied by a pair of electric motors driving both axles with a combined 380 PS (375 hp / 280 kW). The suspension and the brakes are all-new, and Lunaz claims the EV still makes a capable off-roader. It can even wade rivers up to 50 cm (20 inches) deep.

The associated costs are unknown. Lunaz admits it has amassed quite a few orders from young people interested in environmental preservation, so those looking to order a conversion like this one probably need a lot of patience waiting for the delivery.
