Canepa, a U.S.-based restoration shop specializing in the Porsche 959, has rolled out the 959SC Reimagined – a true paragon of design and technology that aims to eliminate any shortcomings the original car may have.
The whole project took 4,000 hours to complete, out of which 400 hours went into retrimming the interior. It wound up with natural brown leather all around and a modern multimedia system disguised as a classic radio.
On the outside, the car is restored to peak condition and wears a dark green finish. The lighting is LED-based all around, and 18-inch magnesium wheels fill out their respective arches perfectly.
The biggest effort went into the drivetrain and chassis. Canepa kept the stock twin-turbo flat-six with 2.9 liters of displacement, but replaced nearly all internals from turbos and ignition to the fuel pump and the exhaust system. The car can now switch between pump gas and E85 and pushes out a cool 811 PS (800 hp / 596 kW) to the four wheels, as well as 881 Nm (650 lb-ft) of torque.
For the chassis, the tuner drew inspiration from the exotic 959S modification. It wound up with titanium springs, Penske shocks and a 25mm (1-inch) reduction in ride height. The brakes were also upgraded to keep up with the engine output.
According to Bruce Canepa, the founder and leader of the company, the 959SC Reimagined is the most complex, detailed and successful Porsche 959 restomod so far. It changed hands not long ago for roughly 3 million USD. The estimate was even higher than that, but still, it’s impressive how much you can sell a 37-year-old car for if you pour your soul into it.
