Rimac believes 0-60 mph in under one second is possible

Hypercar maker Rimac is convinced that designing a hypercar capable of rocketing forward from standstill to 96.6 kilometers per hour (60 miles per hour) in less than a second is possible in principle – just not necessarily a priority, The Drive reports quoting Matija Renić, Chief Program Engineer of the company.

Speaking in an interview with the media, Renić emphasized that launch speed does not represent an absolute priority for the company, which seeks to balance it with handling ease and daily driving comfort.

He did not say explicitly whether Rimac intended to produce such a car in the near future, nr did he elaborate on how this kind of acceleration could be achieved.

As it stands, the Koenigsegg Gemera is one of the world’s fastest-accelerating hypercars capable of going 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds. Tesla is working on a special version of its Roadster EV that would do the same in 1.1 seconds, but that car still has no definitive release date.

The Rimac Nevera – which you will find in our gallery and video here – comes equipped with a quartet of electric motors joining their forces for 1,914 PS (1,888 hp / 1,408 kW). It can attain 60 miles per hour in 1.85 seconds.
