Tesla resumes Roadster reservations

Visitors to the official website of Tesla Inc. will find that they can pre-order a Roadster EV for the first time since the feature was removed last spring. New cars will ship in 2024 and require a $50,000 deposit.

Potential buyers need to transfer $5,000 when making the order and another $45,000 within ten days from the initial payment. The Roadster model currently costs $200,000 in its most basic spec, but Tesla warns that the price does not constitute the final offer and may be subject to revision. The conditions are actually the same as years ago.

Per Tesla, the production EV will be able to reach 96 km/h (60 mph) in 1.9 seconds, exceed 400 km/h (248 mph) in a straight line and cover 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) on a single charge. However, with the work on the car still ongoing, these parameters are also liable to change.

The company hopes to wrap up the development by the end of 2023 and launch production in a year after that. According to Teslarati, Elon Musk admitted the other day that his company has been in an unpleasant position lately, having to ‘test the patience’ of those with reservations several years old.

The second-gen Tesla Roadster debuted six years ago and was advertised as the planet’s fastest electric car. Its production had been slated for 2021, but has been postponed multiple times since then. Musk let it slip not long ago that the Roadster was not a key priority for Tesla.
