This Dacia Duster pickup-of-sorts costs €26k

The Romanian website of Dacia lists an unusual conversion as available for its Duster SUV. Romturingia can turn it into a light pickup truck complete with a tiny cargo bed and four-door cab. Buyers can choose from two hybrid powertrains, but at €26,000 before options, it’s not exactly cheap.

Romturingia starts the conversion by cutting off the roof right behind the c-pillars, reshaping the sides and adding a drop-down tailgate. The trunk was fashioned into a rather small bed lined with hard plastic to prevent damage. A partition wall with a small window at the top was added between the bed and the cab to keep noise down.

Modified like this, the Duster offers a square meter (10.76 square feet) of bed space and can haul up to 430 kilograms (948 pounds) in one go. While that’s a bit on the small side, the good news is that it stays the exact same size as an unmodified SUV and even rocks the same taillights.

Customers in Romania are choosing from three trim levels and two powertrains, same as the SUV. There’s a 1.2-liter turbocharged mild hybrid driving all four wheels with 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) and a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated plug-in hybrid with 140 PS (138 hp / 103 kW) at its disposal.
