FAW Group automaker Bestune has updated its Pony microcar lineup for China. One of the country’s cheapest electric hatchbacks retained its appearance without major changes, but ended up with a much wider equipment list, as well as a superior motor and a bigger battery. Understandably, prices have increased across the board.
The pre-facelift Pony came equipped with a 27-PS (27-hp / 20-kW) motor plugged into a 13.9-kWh battery pack. It ran out of charge after 170 km (105 miles). In contrast, the new version packs a 41-PS (40-hp / 30-kW) motor with 90 Nm (66 lb-ft) of torquea and gets 222 km (138 miles) per charge from its superior 18.11-kWh battery.
Design-wise, you may now opt for a cute pink exterior finish and a Cocoa Brown cabin. The dimensions of the car stay unchanged at 3,000 x 1,510 x 1,630 mm (117.2 x 59 x 63.7 inches). The wheelbase spans 1,953 mm (76.3 inches).
Major improvements have been made to the interior. The infotainment system now resides on a 10.1-inch touchscreen by default and supports over-the-air updates. Digital key fob, dash camera and motor launch button are all included. The ADAS package has been complemented with a new assist mode for low-speed urban driving.
The base price on the domestic market has grown from 26,900 to 34,900 Yuan (from U.S. $3,735 to $4,850).
