Classic Recreations, a restomod and replica builder officially approved by Ford and Shelby, has presented its latest creation. Named Shelby Cobra Diamond Edition Roadster, it celebrates 60 years of the American classic car company and will be released in a series of just 10 units priced from $1,200,000 each.
The replica rides on a racecar chassis and has a prepreg CFP body weighing as little as 40 kilos (88 pounds). Power comes from a five-liter Coyote Gen 3 V8 modified at Ford Racing with a high-end supercharger. It slams the rear wheels with 1,014 PS (1,000 hp / 746 kW) and 1,017 Nm (750 lb-ft) of torque through a six-speed manual transmission.
Governed by a Motec M150 ECU, the drivetrain is expected to let the modern Cobra hit 96.6 km/h (60 miles per hour) in 3.2 seconds and max out at 305 km/h (190 mph). The actual measurements remain to be made, though.
Envisioned primarily as a track tool, the car comes equipped with engine, differential and transmission oil cooling. It has 18-inch three-piece forged wheels in the arches.
The interior is in line with the original Cobra design, and the dashboard is also made from carbon fiber. The instrument cluster has red gauges and a serial number plaque encrusted with ten diamonds.
All buyers are entitled to nice bonuses such as a custom racing helmet, a jacket and a book telling how the roadster came to be.
