Alfa Romeo 4C set to be replaced by an EV, but not anytime soon

The Alfa Romeo 4C that dropped out of production three years ago will be getting a successor after all, says Daniel Guzzafame, one of the company’s executives. It will be roadster-shaped and likely called ‘4E Spider’, but will not debut until 2027 or later.

When the car comes out, it will likely compete against the all-electric successors to the Alpine A110, Porsche Boxster and Lotus Elise EV. Its exterior may be inspired by the recent 33 Stradale and the Spider Duetto from the 1960s. Alfa Romeo is planning on using the STLA Medium platform by Stellantis for the production, which will also underpin the all-electric continuation of the Giulia sedan.

The (provisionally named) 4E Spider will be able to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in a couple of seconds, replenish enough charge for 32 km (20 miles) of driving in a single minute and go on for at least 805 km (500 miles) on a full charge. The powertrain specifications remain to be decided upon, but Alfa Romeo promised up to 1,000 horsepower (750 kW) for the Giulia EV mentioned above.

The important thing to keep in mind is that the company is planning to usher in at least five other electric vehicles before the 4E. These will include the replacements for the ICE-powered Giulia and Stelvio, a compact crossover SUV, a large sedan, and a full-size SUV. The latter two will be primarily targeting the markets of China and North America.
