UK-based automaker Allard only had time to produce 175 examples of its J2X roadster before going bankrupt and ceasing to exist in the late 1950s. Despite their extravagant looks, these cars shipped with all kinds of powerful V8 engines under the hood and proceeded to win dozens of races. The few surviving examples nowadays tend to sell close to $500,000, but you can now grab a faithful replica and pay significantly less.
The car in question is called the Allard Motor Works J2X Mk III. Manufactured by the revived brand, it features a lightweight GFRP body and benefits from modern steering, suspension and brakes. The proportions might feel off in places, but the company assures us that it was done deliberately to ensure modern safety and reliability.
Like its predecessor, the J2X Mk III is obtainable with a wide variety of V8 options. The most obvious of them is the tuners’ favorite 6.2-liter LS3 V8 rated at 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW), but you can go for something else if you feel like it. With a curb weight of just 1,250 kilos (2,755 pounds), the car should feel like a feather on the road in any case.
Pricing starts around U.S. $220,000 right now and varies a lot based on your trim and equipment choices.
