Partly restored Aston Martin DB5 crops up on sale as a £315k DIY kit

A 58-year-old Aston Martin DB5, one out of 679 right-hand-drive models ever produced, is being auctioned off in the UK right now with the bidding at £315,000 (U.S. $365,000) and two days remaining.

Apparently, the car possesses great collector’s value, because whoever pays the winning bid is going to have to piece it together first. The owner had it torn down to the naked body, which it restored carefully along with the entire original suspension and steering systems.

A 4.2-liter six-cylinder engine with three carburetors drives the wheels through a ZF five-speed manual transmission. Restored seat frames and other cabin components are also included in the lot.

The buyer will have to paint the body, re-trim the interior and put the remaining buts together. Based on the documents, the car was originally black with white leather inside, but was later resprayed in blue and reupholstered in red. Those multi-spoke wheels will need attention, too, the listing mentions.

The seller claims Aston Martin representatives assisted with his restoration effort. Among other things, they hand-made the missing body panels in strict accordance with the original specifications and technology.
